The truth is out about iPhone users. A new report released by AdMob this morning stated that both iPhone and Android users download and even spend time playing with or using close to the same number of apps, iPhone users were actually more likely to buy an app.
The January 2010 Metrics Report which surveyed mobile device users showed that fifty percent of iPhone users and around thirty-five percent of iPod Touch users buy no least than one application each month. Palm’s WebOS owners showed twenty four percent and twenty-one percent of Android users purchase one app per month. Research In Motion’s BlackBerry was not included in the survey.
Looking at the overall survey, iPod Touch users are at the top when it comes to downloading with 12 apps per month, against Android and iPhone owners that download on average nine apps each month. WebOS owners are back on the chart at only six apps each month. However, apps for this OS are not as plentiful.
iPod Touch users are at the top when it comes to the time spent on their device as well spending on average 100 minutes per month using the various apps they have downloaded. WebOS owners spend 87 minutes, Android owners spend 80 minutes, and last on the list are the iPhone users with 79 minutes per month.
When it comes to recommending their gadget to others iPhone users were at the top with 91%, iPod Touch users are next with 88%, Android users are at 84%, and WebOS ended at only 69%.
AdMob used the results of this survey against a survey performed in July. There was a noted rise in smartphones and devices like the iPod Touch. Along with this rise, AdMob is noticing a rise in mobile internet devices known as MID’s. In January ad requests from MID’s was 17% whereas it was only 12% in July. Among the different users that were surveyed those iPhone users that are interested in purchasing an iPad is 16% but other device owners including Android and WebOS was only at 6%.
AdMob monitors and serves ads to cell phones for more than 15,000 mobile websites for the Android, iPhone, smartphones, and WebOS. The results of the survey were collected from the responses of 963 users over a 2 week time period in February.
